OUR MISSION
Our mission is to help families seeking stable housing in the South Bay achieve sustainable independence through a community-based approach.

We envision a community where every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.
We believe that no child should have to sleep in a car, in a park, or under a bridge, and that every family deserves a chance to be whole and have a roof over their head again.

Origin Story
Family Promise of the South Bay was founded in 2010 by Chery Carew and Julie Jacks, along with a group of dedicated community members, to address the growing crisis of family homelessness. Recognizing the need for a collaborative and community-driven approach, they worked to establish the organization as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, build a network of local partners, and open a Day Center to provide families with essential services and a place of stability.

Over the years, Family Promise has expanded its impact, developing comprehensive programs that offer shelter, case management, financial literacy, workforce development, and long-term housing solutions. By fostering strong partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and volunteers, the organization has helped hundreds of families regain stability and independence.
As the needs of the community continue to evolve, Family Promise remains committed to innovative, evidence-based solutions that not only address the immediate crisis of homelessness but also work to prevent it. With a deep commitment to empowering families and strengthening communities, the organization continues to grow, ensuring that every child and parent has the opportunity to build a brighter, more secure future

New Name, Same Heart
Since 2010, as Family Promise of the South Bay, we have been honored to walk alongside families with young children in our community experiencing homelessness, offering not just shelter, but hope, stability, and a path forward.

As the need for family-centered services continues to grow across Southwest Los Angeles county, our mission has naturally expanded with it. Families facing housing instability are not confined by city limits or neighborhood lines. Accordingly, we are finding that our assistance to these families is now reaching into neighboring communities adjacent to the South Bay.

In 2025, we changed our name to Family Promise of Los Angeles, which simply reflects the broader geographic scope of the families we now serve, while staying true to our roots. The South Bay will always be at the heart of our work, and we remain deeply committed to walking with families here. At the same time, we are excited to recognize the broader reach of our services as a more relevant service provider for our donors, offering the same trauma-informed, personalized support to more families across southwestern LA County.

While the name is new, our heart and mission remain the same: to ensure every family in our neighborhoods have the support they need to build a brighter future!

Together, we are making a difference for children and families in our community. Thank you, as always, for walking alongside us in this journey.
